Cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms remains a federal offense in the United States. Content is provided for educational, harm-reduction, and research purposes in jurisdictions where such activity is legal.

Terms of Use

The ground rules for using psilocybea. Plain English. Last updated April 24, 2026.

A note on these terms

This document is written to be read, not to be impenetrable. It is not legal advice, and a lawyer has not reviewed it yet. If you are using it as a template for your own project, have one look it over.

§ 01Who we are, and what this is

psilocybea ("we," "us," "the site") is a community-maintained reference work about psilocybin-containing mushroom varieties, cultivation, and harm reduction. It is educational in intent. It is not a shop, a marketplace, a medical service, a legal service, or an introduction to anyone who will sell, distribute, or administer a controlled substance.

By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, stop using the site.

§ 02You must be 18 or older

The site is not for minors. By creating an account, contributing content, or using any authenticated feature, you confirm you are at least 18 years of age and of legal age in your jurisdiction. If we learn an account belongs to a minor, we will delete it.

§ 03Acceptable use

When using the site, you agree not to:

  • Offer to buy, sell, trade, or arrange delivery of controlled substances, including spores, cultivated mushrooms, or extracts, on the site or through the site’s communication features.
  • Solicit minors, harass other contributors, or post content that targets an individual for abuse.
  • Post personal information about other people (real names, addresses, phone numbers, employers) without their clear consent.
  • Post content that could reasonably be read as instructions for harming yourself or someone else, outside the educational harm-reduction context the site is built for.
  • Impersonate another person or entity, or claim credentials you do not hold (e.g., licensed therapist, physician).
  • Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or replicate the site without our written permission. Reasonable personal or research use of the public pages is fine; building a clone is not.
  • Attempt to interfere with the site’s operation — probing for vulnerabilities, overwhelming the servers, or accessing data you are not authorized to see.

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban, at our discretion and typically without warning for the serious ones. If a violation involves credible threat of harm to a person, we will cooperate with law enforcement.

§ 04Your contributions

When you submit a strain entry, edit suggestion, grow journal, photo, or comment ("Contributions"), you retain copyright in your work. You grant psilocybea a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, sublicensable license to host, reproduce, distribute, and display those Contributions as part of the site and its derivative works (e.g., a mobile app, exports, printed archives).

You also agree that other contributors and readers may access your Contributions under the site’s content license (Creative Commons BY-SA 4.0 unless otherwise noted on a specific page). That means your edits to the codex can be remixed and shared by others, with attribution, under a similar license.

You represent that your Contributions are your own work or properly licensed, and that sharing them here does not violate someone else’s copyright, trademark, or privacy.

We may remove Contributions that violate these terms, conflict with the accuracy of the codex, or expose the site to legal risk. We are not obligated to retain any Contribution indefinitely, though we will try to preserve the historical record of the codex where we can.

§ 05Nothing here is medical or legal advice

psilocybin is a Schedule I controlled substance under U.S. federal law, and is regulated differently in different states and countries. Nothing on this site should be read as:

  • A recommendation to cultivate, possess, distribute, or consume psilocybin
  • Medical advice about the safety, efficacy, or therapeutic use of psilocybin or any related compound
  • Legal advice about what is permitted in your jurisdiction
  • A substitute for consultation with a qualified physician, therapist, or attorney

The dosage ranges, interaction warnings, and other information we publish are compiled from clinical literature and community experience. They are general educational summaries, not personal recommendations. Individual response varies. The only person who can make an informed decision about what goes into your body is you in consultation with a qualified professional who knows your history.

§ 06Limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is." We do not warrant that information on the site is accurate, complete, current, or safe to act on. Use of the site is at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, psilocybea and its contributors, operators, and hosts are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or its content. Our aggregate liability to you for direct damages will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or limitation of liability for certain damages. If you are in one of those jurisdictions, the above limits apply to the maximum extent permitted by your local law.

§ 07Accounts and termination

You are responsible for activity on your account. If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, sign out everywhere and contact us.

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account for violations of these terms, for content that exposes the site to legal risk, or at our discretion if we decide to discontinue operations. Where possible we will give notice; for the serious cases, we will not.

§ 08Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site grows. Material changes will be announced on the site, with the "last updated" date at the top of this page reflecting the change. Continued use after an update means you accept the new terms. If you disagree with a change, stop using the site and close your account.

§ 09Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the site will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

§ 10Contact

Questions about these terms: psilocybea is currently operated as a solo project. Reach out through the contact surface linked in the site footer, or open an issue in the public repository. A formal contact channel will be published here once the site leaves early beta.
