Great White Monster

A leucistic Psilocybe cubensis variety distinguished by unusually thick, dense fruiting bodies; community accounts attribute its heft to polyploidy, though the claim has not been formally verified.

Plate IPsilocybe cubensis var. Great White Monster (GWM) · mature specimen

A leucistic Psilocybe cubensis variety distinguished by unusually thick, dense fruiting bodies; community accounts attribute its heft to polyploidy, though the claim has not been formally verified.

§ 01Morphology

Great White Monster is immediately distinguishable by the thickness and density of its fruiting bodies. Caps of 40–80 mm sit on stout, cylindrical stipes substantially thicker than those of typical P. cubensis lines of comparable cap size; specimens are visibly heavier than Golden Teacher or B+ fruits of equivalent dimensions.

Colouration is uniformly pale ivory to ghost-white across cap and stipe, with standard blue bruising against the pale ground. Spore prints remain deep purple-black, confirming leucism rather than true albinism.

§ 02Origin & Naming

Great White Monster is a hobbyist-stabilised isolate of the 2000s; no single founding cultivator is reliably documented, and the variety's genetic parentage is not authoritatively established. Community descriptions often speculate a cross involving a leucistic A+ or TAT line with a large-fruiting cubensis parent, but no canonical account exists.

The polyploid designation widely applied to GWM is likewise undocumented in formal literature. It remains a useful hypothesis for explaining the variety's unusually heavy fruits, but cultivators should treat the claim as a community hypothesis rather than established fact.

§ 03Cultivation Temperament

Colonisation is slower than the P. cubensis norm — consistent with but not diagnostic of the claimed polyploidy — and the variety benefits from extended colonisation timelines before fruiting is initiated. Contamination resistance is average; sterile technique should be observed as rigorously as for Penis Envy derivatives.

Fruiting prefers consistent humidity (92–95% RH) and low ambient light to preserve the pale colouration of the cap. Yields are moderate but individual specimens are heavy, favouring weight over count per flush.

§ 04Safety Profile

As with all psilocybin-containing species, Great White Monster carries significant contraindications. Psilocybin is a serotonergic compound and interacts with a range of medications and mental-health conditions.

⚠ Contraindications

Not suitable for individuals with personal or family history of psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, or bipolar I; those taking SSRIs, MAOIs, or lithium; pregnant or breastfeeding persons; or those with unmanaged cardiovascular conditions. Always review the full safety codex before use.
