§ 01Morphology
Tidal Wave inherits the dense, club-shaped fruiting body of the Penis Envy parent, tempered by the larger cap and softer cap profile of B+. Cap colouration is caramel-tan, bruising strongly blue-green; the stipe is cylindrical and thick, and the cap frequently fails to open fully.
Spore production is intermediate — reduced relative to standard P. cubensis but less sparse than pure Penis Envy derivatives — which has enabled the variety to be propagated through spore syringes as well as via agar or liquid culture.
§ 02Origin & Naming
Tidal Wave was developed by the cultivator Magic Myco Tommyboy as a cross of the B+ and Penis Envy lineages, with the F1 generation stabilised into a consistent phenotype by 2019. The variety entered broad hobbyist circulation in 2020.
Oakland Hyphae's Psilocybin Cup — a community-run potency assay established in the same period — recorded a Tidal Wave specimen at a combined psilocybin + psilocin content of 3.82% by dry weight in 2020, the then-record under the Cup's methodology. Subsequent years have seen higher-scoring specimens from other varieties, but the 2020 result remains the founding reference point for the variety's reputation.

§ 03Cultivation Temperament
Colonisation is slower than standard P. cubensis, inheriting this trait from the Penis Envy parent. Contamination tolerance is below average and rigorous sterile technique is required; extended colonisation timelines increase cumulative contamination exposure and several well-known cultivators advise against the variety as a first or second project.
Fruiting is moderate; yields are average by weight but individual specimens are dense. Environmental tolerance is narrower than in hardier varieties, and stable humidity is particularly important to consistent pinning.

As with all psilocybin-containing species, Tidal Wave carries significant contraindications. Psilocybin is a serotonergic compound and interacts with a range of medications and mental-health conditions.

Tidal Wave is documented to reach extremely high tryptamine concentrations; dosing estimates derived from standard P. cubensis varieties will significantly overshoot intended effect. Individual specimen potency also varies sharply within the same flush. Begin with markedly reduced quantities. Not suitable for individuals with personal or family history of psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, or bipolar I; those taking SSRIs, MAOIs, or lithium; pregnant or breastfeeding persons; or those with unmanaged cardiovascular conditions.
